Windy Creek About Us!!!
We are located off the Chesapeake Bay, an hour east of Richmond, and an hour west of Newport News. Although my sister-in-law bred Collies and my first was obtained when I was two years old, Windy Creek started in 1983. Our first show prospect was, of course, a Collie. Although absolutely beautiful, Dominic didn't have what it took to become a champion. (Lassie had prick ears...who knew??) We researched for another Collie, but came across the "miniature" version at some shows. And after being introduced to Wade Burns and Mary Hayes, the story began. Malpsh A Piece Of The Rock was purchased and we played around in the show ring with him, winning classes and even some reserves. We then purchased Malpsh Luv Song Of Windy Creek, and with the help and guidance of Wade, Jon, and Mary, she was bred to Ch. Lanbur Always Formal, which produced our first champion, "DC.".
We breed about one litter per year, occasionally two. All puppies are raised in the house and well socialized. All breeding stock are tested for hips, eyes, etc. Of course we can't keep all of the puppies in the litter, and any pets are sold on limited registered with a spay/neuter contract. All shots are up to date, and we give a health guarantee. We do not advertise in the papers and most of our puppy sales are either referrals or repeat buyers, which makes us very proud of our breeding program and gives us a good feeling knowing that our puppies are going to be a part of the family for a very long time. We usually have a waiting list for puppies which also makes us very proud.
We are glad to offer referrals for other reputable breeders for puppy sale and try our best to refer only to breeders who are reputable and ethical, and who breed to the standard and take pride in our breed and in their breeding programs.
Our males are offered at stud to approved bitches only. We try to breed only to those bitches who will benefit the breed and to owners who are truly breeding for show quality Shelties, those breeders who will keep and show the best in their litters and who are always striving for the perfect show dog. Although there are no perfect dogs out there, we are always trying to come closer and closer to that goal, and we take pride in our co-ownerships and co-breedings with breeders who take the same pride in this breed as we do. We have some very good co-ownerships and co-breedings planned as well as those that have already produced some of our best dogs to date.
